On October 17th, we left Roger's parking lot at 3:18 am. There were 2 buses holding a total of 91 seniors. We arrived in Mackinaw City at 9:30 am & boarded a ferry to the Island. The ferry went directly under the bridge, a first for many people. We sat inside the ferry, although cold, it was tolerable. A great view of the hotel from the water. Staying at the Grand checked off a bucket list item for Denny and it was for his 80th birthday! The Grand Hotel has a very efficient means of getting guests to the hotel, along with their luggage.A gorgeous road leading up to the hotel. This is the parlor area where we were first greeted. Here is the hallway in the parlor looking the other direction. After a short talk on "what you need to know" we were dismissed to the dining room for lunch buffet. It holds 1000 guests.Denny enjoyed this area of the buffet most. But they had so much food!! Chicken, prime rib, mashed potatoes, au gratin potatoes, rolls, soups, salad, all kinds of fruit, & many different desserts.A nice scene on the famous front porch. After 2:00 we could go find our rooms. This was the hallway to our room on the 4th floor. This was our room. Every room is decorated differently. Our room did not have a wonderful view, but was extremely comfortable. After a short rest in the afternoon, we walked around a bit before getting ready for dinner at 6:30.
